How Do You Take Your Copy?

May 22, 2017

“Are you a good copywriter?”

I get asked that a lot.

I try to answer this question by saying “it depends how you like your copy.”

It’s like coffee really. How you have your coffee in the morning is personal to you but someone else won’t take it the same way. Take me for example, can’t stand a Latte, it feels like there’s just too much milk and not enough coffee, knowwhatimsayin?

Whereas I have friends that LOVE Lattes. I like a Cappuccino but as one of my friends pointed out, it’s 80% froth so it’s a waste of money! Like I said, different tastes.

When it comes to copywriting we’re like coffees. And I’m an Espresso. Rich, intense, full bodied, powerful, will take you off your feet, drink in small doses. So you know what? I’m a superb copywriter. But not if you don’t like Espressos I’m not!

Perhaps you want someone softer and more subtle, someone with just a hint of taste? Choose a Latte. Maybe you want someone longer, who is more descriptive and takes a while to get to the good stuff, go with a tall glass.

But me? I’m in there straight off – BAM. That first line has to be killer and when they finish the cup they’ll want to order another, if they can handle it. And they’ll be wired with copy running through their veins.

But I also know I can be too strong. And I don’t really come in a decaf option. So what I will say is yes, I’m a great copywriter for my particular type of customer. But if you’re after a Latte, a Cappuccino, a Mocha or a Hot Chocolate then I’m probably not your kind of girl. But that’s OK, because there’s bound to be a Brand Barista out there perfectly matched to how you take yours. And I may even know who they are.

I’m never afraid when someone rocks up at my door to tell them if I think it’s not a good fit. And hey, there’s nothing wrong with a nice latte, it’s just not being mixed up in my kitchen. So I hope this helps. Different tastes, different tasses.

But if you’re searching for rich, intense, short and with a taste you’ll remember then I’m confident I’m your girl.
